WHAT’S IN YOUR SACK?
Each of us carries a challenge within. Often, it is something unpleasant, unacceptable, or uncomfortable – something we don't want to see, fear to uncover, or avoid confronting. What is it that I am carrying that's so heavy? What should I do with it? Where do I place it? How do I live with it? Should I share it or keep it hidden and invisible? Should I hide it and pretend it doesn't exist, or should I accept it, cleanse it, and learn to live with it – perhaps even befriend it?
These and other questions will be explored in the performance, revealing vulnerability and shedding light on a part of one’s story that is uncomfortable and challenging.
I
Here I am with my sack of junk. For years it has been quite heavy, stuck, long, painful, fearful, insecure and reproachful. With a sack that I didn’t want to pay attention to, constantly pretending that it wasn’t there, that it would disappear by itself or someone else would remove it.
But...it is...and will be there for as long as I don’t open it myself and look at what really lives in it. What is so ugly about it? It keeps growing, it only gets heavier and more pressing, and what needs to be accepted, polished and what needs to be thrown out of it. Because it has become so stale that it interferes with what is in it, in its growth and strength ...
How long will you carry it?
I I
I open it …
I want it to be quick and painless, but … it still requires effort.
Until it opens and pulls me into hopelessness.
I touch it in fear, watching, smelling, living and experiencing the form and story of its contents.
Keep it a secret … or share it with those who are here… in its presence?
Share the parts of myself that can give strength to me and you.
I continue to carry, watch and live with …
